Fox and Hounds Country Hotel
Brief Description of Hotel:
The Fox and Hounds Hotel in North Devon is truly tucked away in the heart of the glorious Devon countryside, set on the banks of the River Taw amongst the scenic landscape of the Tarka Trail
Rooms and Facilities:
A comfortable King Size bed with flat screen TV and radio, hot drink making facilities, hairdryer and toiletries. We have some standard rooms offering twin beds - just let us know if you prefer this configuration.
Standard rooms can comfortably fit a cot or child bed if you are bringing the little ones (please book in advance and some surcharges may apply).
Superior and family rooms:
Our largest and most luxurious rooms feature flat screen TV and radios, hot drink making facilities, hairdryer, fluffy bathrobes and luxury toiletries.
With either Four Poster or King Size beds, all are furnished to a high standard.
Our largest family suite has a separate lounge area with double sofa bed and space for cots as required. One superior room on the ground floor has two double beds and a double sofa bed with space for a cot if required.
Cosy Double rooms:
Compact and cosy with double beds, our Cosy Doubles have full ensuite shower facilities, TV, tea and coffee facilities and hairdryer.
Great for one or nice and cosy for two! Eggesford Suite:
This Junior Suite, refurbished in March 2017, has the biggest four poster bed in Devon (7.5 feet wide) and beautiful furnishings.
The Eggesford Suite is truly stunning, with a bath that is big enough for two. Heywood Suite:
New for July 2020, the Heywood suite is a ground floor spacious suite with mini kitchen, deck overlooking the garden, double ended bath plus separate walk in shower, private access to and from the garden and stunning period features.
Many years ago this was the original coaching inn bar and has been transformed into one of our most light and airy luxury bedrooms. The super-king bed can be twinned if you prefer and it sleeps up to 4 plus the dog!
Disabled friendly rooms:
We have three ground floor rooms in total, all facing the gardens.
The superior Garden Room with its own terrace, has a normal bath with shower over and is dog friendly. Please note in high season the Garden Room (as our most popular room) is subject to a minimum stay of 2 nights.
The Standard Room (20) has its own patio area can be double or twin, with a walk-in shower and is also dog friendly (shower width is 70cm so suited to partially mobile guests).
We also have our new Standard Twin (21) with fully adapted wet room and low level units, our most suited room for wheelchair users.
Treetops luxury house:
Our family-friendly, luxury tree house sits besides our trout pond in the lower fields beyond the hotel gardens. Built in 2013 predominantly out of larch, it is still one of the most unique and charming wooden structures to actually be built around a tree – a ‘true tree house’!
The stunning oak that houses this 2 bedroom fully contained house is estimated to be over 250 years old. Bird boxes encourage the owls and other wildlife to peek into the windows and a deer or even an otter can sometimes be spotted in the private paddock below the 5 metre high branches.
• A king-size master bedroom
• A separate children’s bunk room with 2 slim single beds
• En-suite bathroom with copper bath and separate shower
• Fully fitted kitchen with dishwasher and breakfast bar
• Cosy lounge with wood burner (logs included) with French doors to a large terrace overlooking the fishing lake and outdoor heater
• BBQ area on the grounds below

Please note pets are not permitted in the tree house at any time.

If you are looking for something more tranquil, we have the world class RHS Rosemoor Gardens nearby, stunning at any time of year, or perhaps you can take a ride on the famous Tarka Railway, which runs between Exeter and Barnstaple and stops at nearby Eggesford Station.
