Introduction

The South East of England is recognisable for its royal castles, flowing countryside, forests, beaches and capital city.

The region incorporates two of our countries National Parks, the beautiful New Forest, home of the wild ponies, and the South Downs, which gently roll down to the cool seaside town of Brighton.

This region boasts not one but 15 forests, woods and nature reserves.

Take a trip to Ashdown Forest or locally known as “Pooh Land” and visit the landscape that AA Milne wrote the famous Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin stories. Here you’ll find One Hundred Acre wood amongst other landmarks and why not have a go at Pooh Sticks at “Poohsticks Bridge”.

This area is within easy reach of London which makes it a perfect choice for a two centre break – city and country escape!

Things to do in the South East

There’s plenty to do around the area.

The New Forest itself is full of lovely walks and cycle trails to spot the ponies or visit the esteemed Beaulieu Motor Museum, it’s not just for Dad! Take a picnic in the palace grounds. Young buccaneers can create their very own pirate flag, scream and shout in the Pirate Tavern or try out different weapons from cannons to cutlasses at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. Or for a more “gentil” excursion, visit Highclere House, the famous location for the TV phenomenon Downton Abby.

For the slightly older children, see if you can crack the secret code at Bletchley Park and learn the behind the scenes story of the Enigma Code! Time it right and take some time in one of the many festivals in the South East such as the Hampton Court Flower Show or the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
